Title: 383c GPS only
Post by: mritchy on December 31, 2011, 08:40:01 PM
I have a 383c which I have setup in a small 13ft runabout. It works fantastic. However I now also have an 18ft offshore boat which has a dedicated depth sounder but no GPS.
Can I disable the sounder/transducer and just have the GPS? I have disconnected the transducer and tried turning the sounder on, but on start up the sounder looks for the transducer.

Can I bridge the necessary terminals through respective resistors or devices?

I dont think the "bridge would help as the unit loooks for conversation from the GPS puck. At least that is my understanding...

No bridging need there mritchy.
With the unit connected to the transducer: power it on and go to the Setup menu tab.  Scroll down to the User Mode menu and set it to the “Advanced” setting if it is not already set there.  Then scroll down the Setup menus until you see the Sonar menu and set it to “Off”.  Exit out of the menus and power the unit off.  Now, when you power on without the transducer connected it should work as a GPS only unit.  You can always go back and set the Sonar menu back to the “On” setting and it will work as a sonar-GPS unit again.

Thanks Guys.... just as you said Greg... I turned the sonar to 'off' and on start up everything worked as it should. Really appreciate your help. Mritchy... ;)
