Title: Problems with noise 1197
Post by: Manuel Suarez on December 25, 2011, 03:58:40 PM
Hi all, Since I update the last firmware version of my 1197 I am not able to solve the noise on my SI or down imaging. The following pic is a sample at 1,5  milles/h when I use the trolling motor and it produce clear bands. Any idea how I can configure my unit. I am not an expert but I tried fifferent configuration of sensibility and frecuency. Please ket me know your thoughts.

Best regards and Merry Christmas to everybody from Spain.

I had the same problem i ran a ground wire from the ground on the unit to the clamp on the trolling motor Transducer it is a lot better but not gone. I don't think this works with universal sonar trolling motors

Thanks, only a point, my trnsducer is not at the trolling, it is at the stern, it could be anthing related to the power?

It appears that the HB units are very sensitive to external "noise".  while some of this is thru the transducer a lot of "white noise" or RF noise can be introduced thru any combination of wiring systems.
While this is unusual to start happening on an update is a bit confusing. Normally software does not create noise, but I guess maybe some filter setting could have changed.
Here is what other users of HB products have done.
Supply your unit with power from its own battery. Keep the wires away from other wires. Ensure good ground connections on all wiring supplies. Check the connectors on the HB unit for good connection.
This may take a bit of time but see where this leads you.

Post back on results.

I have the same defect ....  is not "noise" ......is a bug in version 5.840 for 1197 SI. ???
The "noise" that has to do with the distance from the reading side imaging.

I'm using version 5.700 that despite other bugs .... SI works much better than the 5.840.

Thanks a lot, to be honest this is the only change in  my boat,(the 5.840 ver) so I will try to install 5.500 (I think this is what you mean) .
I will update the results. thanks again.

Manual, I have thought about this for a bit and now am wondering if software could cause the funny display. I thought back on our 1197 and seem to remember that on 5.5 we had a good display. We put 5.7 on and noticed some different display somewhat to yours but we had made other changes to the way we had mounted the unit in a box and thought that might have have some bearing so we cleaned up some connections changed a couple of others and it seemed to be better. 5.8 is about the same but over all in back thinking I think 5.5 might have been cleaner.
We will hold off on going back until you give it a try and see.
Please let us know if downleveling changes anything.
I just dont really know about this but it seems worth looking into..

Thanks Chuck. Only one question, 5.7 can run in 1197 without problems? I couldn't find it in 1197 download site, only in 1198. It is because I mentioned 5.5.

I think I got mine from the HB site. It has not been loaded here that I know of. In fact I think the 5.7 was from a dealer.
I will now have to look for the disk where I may have stored it...In case it is needed again..
See what HB can do for you until we can get the levels here in the downloads..

In looking around it may be a bit difficult fot HB to send you downlevel. Hopefully we can get 5.7 and 5.8 loaded here. I am looking for the copy of my 5.8 and will see if Robert can get it uploaded.  Since HB does not have an accessable library I think we need to get code here to help with leveling issues.

This problem is very simple to diagnose.
Start with everything in your boat off except the sonar.

Look at the screen.
If you don't see those lines, then see them when you turn on
another electrical device, then it's noise (electrical interference).

If it was the software doing it, you'd see it ALL the time.
9 times out of 10, it's the trollling motor.

Hook your sonar up to it's own dedicated battery and the problem will be solved.
Best of luck.

Chuck,
Not sure where you got the 5.7 software from as only 5.500 and 5.840 were released for public usage.  That would mean anything between those two versions had a bad problem with it and I would not want to run it in my 1197 unit.

Greg......5.7x was put on during one of our visits to your plant. It worked great for us but we do not use all features of the unit so maybe another bug was found which resulted in 5.8.
Wondering where SSS got his....
At any rate we need to get 5.8 here on the downloads..
I would hope that this is a voltage interference and not code.
You will have to stay up all night fixing that. ;D

Thanks everybody, I have installed 5.5. If it solves the issue then may be the sw or noise related to the sw. If it appears again, I try to switch off everything before start. In any case I doubt about the cause can be the trolling because it is isolated in other battery circuit. Next Friday I will tri and update to you.

The 5.840 version (1197 SI) with this bug ... the noise that appears in agreement with the selected SI range.
ex:
SI Range: 80 mts.... "noise" SI  >:(
SI Range: 81 mts.... perfect  SI  ;)
SI Range: 38 mts.... "noise" SI  >:(
SI Range: 37 mts.... perfect SI  ;)

5.500  the playback on a recording is very slow (known bug)....... Excellent Side Imaging  :)

I hope the above information will help.
