1st post. First, thanks for all the information here. I just got a 798 and have been practicing in the simulation mode with the guidance from you guys. Easier than I had first thought.
Anyway, my question is the 798ciSI will be replacing a Matrix 17. It appears the male plugs on the 2 units are identical and all I'll have to do is replace the transducer. The 798 looks like it will just plug right in to the current base. Before I plug it in I want to make sure my assumption is correct.
Thanks for a very informative site and Merry Christmas.

I believe so. My 798ci fit in my Matrix 12 mount.

I would swap out the power cables as well as the transducer.
If your new 798 is the 798ci HD Si Combo version, then you will have to change out the connector collector parts as well due to the new Ethernet connection on the “HD” version of the 798 unit.

It's not the HD version. Thanks for the replies.
