Title: 798 Video Problem
Post by: rdendy on November 17, 2011, 03:19:48 AM
I am having trouble recording a video on my 798ci si. When I go to start recording it keeps popping up an error screen. It asks if I want to record on my navionics card even with an empty SD card installed. I removed the navionics card and used another SD card but same thing happens. I can take snap shots but not record. I thought maybe it was the SD card but I put it in my 1198 and no problems. One thing I did notice is the card hangs up in the left slot so much that I have to use needle nose pliers to get it out, Right slot is fine. I was wondering if maybe corrosion has gotten in it being it was purchased in 2009. I hesitate to spray anything into it or try to open up to inspect.

It does sound like a card reader issue. Especially if you have had to remove the card with pliers..

It sounds like either corrosion or something has collapsed inside the card slot.
I'd call Humminbird Customer support and see what they suggest.
You may have to send it in for repair.

Good Luck.

If the SD card installs and works in the right card slot but not in the left card slot; than there is something wrong with the left SD card reader and it would have to be retuned to the factory to be serviced – unless you just want to only use the right SD card slot.

I would not spend any more time onthis issue.  Get it back to HBNfor repair.  Or think about a second sonar unit for thanksgiving.....
wont taste as good as a turkey but will certainly get you back in business..
