I have a 998 on the bow and an 1197 on the console. All software is at current levels. Sometimes one or both of the units will go crazy and start showing depth readings all over the place. I realize that when a puck is in very skinny water it might lose it's mind but I'm talking about fishing in 10 ft of water and all of a sudden the depth reading will go to 200 ft, 300 ft, 6 ft, 20 ft, 250 ft, etc.... The reading changes about every second or so.
I had read that current software levels fixed this problem but I'm still experiencing it with the latest software level. I suspect I have an interlink problem, which I've posted in another post. Could a bad interlink cause this issue?
Thanks very much for your help.

Anytime you lose a signal things can go bad. As you also have another post questioning the interlink I would suggest you return it.

What?
The InterLink should have nothing to do with any depth readings going crazy. The InterLink does not interface nor is connected to the transmitter, receiver or any depth reading information.
I would start to troubleshoot the crazy depth readings by shutting one of the units off and see if it goes away or not.
If it does not, see if shutting down any other piece of equipment on the boat off has a positive effect on the unit’s ability to read the correct water depth reading.

I saw his other post Chuck. If he tries what I suggested for his InterLink and it does not help, then he will need to return it to the factory. This should not affect the depth readings on his unit though.
