Title: Output Power???
Post by: 96720 on September 20, 2011, 01:33:49 PM
How much output power does the 998C SI actually have?  The owners manual states 500W RMS and the HB site specs state 1000W RMS.  I can't recall but somewhere there was mention of either 500W or 1000W from the same unit???  How much difference in depth and clarity would you get between the two?

The 1,000 watt specification is only available when using the 1KW transducer and the 50kHz sonar.  This is for conventional 2D sonar only and not for Si sonar.

Thanks, Greg.  Getting away from the 998's but still involving output power, the 798c si specs say it can do 500W RMS max but why is the SI max depth only 100' compared to the 998's at 500W RMS max doing 150' max SI depth according to the specs.?

My guess is that this has more to do with not changing the specs on the other units than any actual performance.  It could also have to do with the wider Si beam (front-to-rear width not side-to-side) of the CSi transducer for the 798 versus the narrower Si beams of the HDSi transducer.
