Title: 1197c New Update 5.840
Post by: sss_floripa on September 09, 2011, 11:15:34 PM
New update 5.840 is available now for 1197c.

CAUTION! We highly recommend that you restore the defaults on your Humminbird unit prior to downloading any new software as it can create complications that can only be fixed at the factory.

I will test   ;)

I used the new update for the first time on the water.
I only used conventional 2-D sonar with GPS.
I didn't make any recordings.

Everything is fine so far.

Also installed the new update without any incidents.  To date every new update was installed without any problems, but I do restore to defaults before installing.   Likewise I only used 2D

Do we need to install every update in sequential order if we haven't updated since 2008? Or can we just go right to the newest update?

You can go to the most recent update....
Dont forget to restore factory defaults before updating...

I have two 1197 linked by the interlink with weathersense inline on one of them.  They each have their own transducers.  One in the bowmount motor and one on the transom.

OK, these are all related to each other and upgrades are sensitive to each upgrade.
Lets think on this a bit and see if we can come up with a suggested order to install the new codes..

I would try the following:
 - Save the Nav Data (waypoints, tracks and routes) from both units.  Save the Nav data from each unit if it is different or just from one unit if both units share all Nav data.  This Nav data needs to be saved to your computer.  Before reinstalling this Nav data at the end of this procedure; you need to open it up in the HumminbirdPC program and re-save it to your computer as a *.gpx file.  We have seen where there has been corrupted Nav data that cause the InterLink not to work properly.
 - Delete the Nav Data off of the SD memory card so that it is blank.
 - Delete the Nav Data from both units and the InterLink.
 - Disconnect both units from the Interlink and WeatherSense.
 - Perform a software update in both units.
 - Reconnect the unit that was plugged into the Port 1 connector on the InterLink, directly to the InterLink again.
 - Power this unit on and allow it to update the InterLink.  Be sure to set it to participate in the InterLink system the way you want it to.
 - Power this unit off and reconnect the second unit.
 - Power both units on and set the second unit to participate in the InterLink the way you want it to.  Both units should now be working and you should be getting GPS on both units.
 - Reload you Nav data but only after opening it in the HumminbirdPC program and uploading it to the SD memory card once again.
 - Power both units off and reconnect your WeatherSense accessory and power back on the unit that the WeatherSense is connected to and give it a few minutes to update it as well.  Do not have this unit connected to the InterLink at this time.  Once completed (give it five minutes) you should be able to reconnect everything the way it was originally and all should work.

Everything went really well and I'm up and running.  It did not prompt me that Weathersense was updating like the Interlink did, but it's working so I'm assuming it updated and everything is okay.  Let me know if there is a way to check if Weathersense should have prompted.

Thanks so much!  I'm really pumped to have down imaging now which I did not know was possible when I purchased this used boat so it's like a huge bonus!

EricCO,
There is no on-screen prompt for the WeatherSense when it updates the software (if there was a software update for it all).
