I just went on site and the new download was not there, maybe they removed it?  I will check on it again later today.

Really bad news.
The Humminbird download site has an error for the newest 1197c download.
I called customer support and they tested it and the problem is with their
download application.

The person who can modify the code there is out of town.
I was looking forward to updating this weekend, but it looks like it
won't be working until next week sometime.

What a drag.

ITGEEK

I also contacted Humminbird after logging in to their site and received the error.  I reconfirmed the error to them and they sent me the update via an email.  The new update is 4,047 kb, I may be able to email it to you.

Thanks for the offer George.
I think I'm limited to 2 megabytes on my email system.

Robert or Greg,
Could you please put the new download in the download section of this forum?

Thanks.

Update 5.840 ;D

CAUTION! We highly recommend that you restore the defaults on your Humminbird unit prior to downloading any new software as it can create complications that can only be fixed at the factory

Sorry ITG.  I wanted to be the one to tell you about this update but I had some medical issues that kept me out of work (and the drugs kept me off my home computer).

That's pretty funny. :)

Greg,
This site benefits greatly from your expertise, experience, and help.
You also provide a unique insight for us, being an HB employee.
The place just isn't the same without you.
I'm glad you are back.
Your supervisor should give you a raise for all the help you provide here.
Or at least a huge Ataboy. :)

I'm sure helping on this forum is not part of your job description.
Feel free to copy this text and send it to your supervisor or the big wigs at HB.
Good luck with the raise or Ataboy.
I'd prefer they give you a raise instead of an Ataboy.
Although they feel good to get, Ataboy's don't pay no bills.

Thanks ITG.
No this is not a part of my job description although my Manager says that we are a technical support group and should help when and where we can.
I would prefer a raise too as I have to figure out how to pay for college for my two Sons…

I'm having enough trouble getting one daughter thru college.

I have no idea what they pay you Greg, but it isn't enough......dealing with the "general public" is a very tough job and you do it with great finesse.

Maybe you could start charging OT for all the time you spend responding to forums on your own time....should have college paid for in no time. ;D >:D

I'll vote for Greg to get a pay raise too.  He's helped a lot of customer and that translates into INCREASED sales at Humminbird.  Good Customer Relations is the key to increasing sales. Happy customers are good customer that tell their friends about how they were treated and who will buy Humminbird Products again and again when they are needed.
Keep up the good work Greg.

PS I wish that Humminbird would hire better and faster programmers so that these firmware updates were finished faster and without so many bugs.  But I am glad that they have these updates.  I own the 898C SI unit and am waiting for Humminbird to release an update for my unit to do waypoint management too.

Thanks for the kind words of praise guys.  I just like to help out and do so where and when I can – I hope to start a world wide revolution with this same concept!

We would need more software testers and boats as well for this.  Usually the holdup is in the testing of the software.  Remember too that these same folks are testing software for all of the other models that we still support software for and also for the new units that we come out with every year.  I don’t know what the holdup for the waypoint management software for the 898, 998 and 1198 is.  Guess those folks are busy on the new products, so maybe not too much longer for it.

I was under the impression that HB vended out the software code writing..If so, this makes is a bit hard to demand "stuff" of the vendor..

No not the code Chuck (or at least not that I am aware of).  Most of it may be written at one of the other JOI sites besides Eufaula we do not hire outside vendors for this.

OK, wrong information, but are you saying that HB at the Eufalua does not write code.  Maybe you guys need to bring it home to your plant of control..
It is easier to influence someone in the next cubicle..

Especially if you have a bat at the ready!  >:D  ;D

Depending on the unit the code or a part of it could be written here in Eufaula.

Start sanding the bat.   You guys need all of the processes for the units.  Code written on the moon does not help us..... :-*
