Hello,
I recently installed the 898, I installed the y cable and shoot thru hull puck. I also (maybe unfortunately) installed 5.7. Why ? because I thought it was the right thing to do since I was prompted to on the Humminbird website. Playback symptoms: very slow and pixilated playback. When I begin playback in SI I get a short recording that scrolls onto the screen about 1 inch then stops. After about 5 minutes the image begins to scroll again and the image is actually ok but it seems to take about 10+ seconds for 1 second of recorded time to play. When i try to fast forward it only speeds up slightly, almost a negligible difference.
On another site I was told to install the original software version.....Problem is I do not know what version was on my unit to start with. Can i load my prior version software? if so how do I find out what was on it?
I have some really cool stuff I want to watch prior to y next trip.
Thanks in advance for the assistance.

mnpucker,
Welcome to the forum. Sorry to hear you are having issues.
No, do not reinstall any prior updates on your unit. Some permanent changes were made in 5.700 and you cannot go back to updates prior to 5.600 or you will damage your unit. And 5.600 was actually never released so it is really not available to reinstall either.
You can read more about it here: http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=3018 (http://forums.sideimagingsoft.com/index.php?topic=3018)
I would contact Humminbird Support directly and they may be able to email you an update. We are just learning more about the changes in 5.700 and would recommend you work directly with HB Support till we know more.
Good Luck,
Robert

Have you tried restoring all the defaults? Also, what brand and speed of SD card are you using? Using an inferior slow read/write speed can cause these extreme slow downs also.

Thanks I will contact Humminbird. The Sd card isa kodak brand, 4gb sd hc.

Most brands of SD are ok and work. However, SanDisk seems to be the top of the crop for use in the HB....
