Title: lost GPS
Post by: doddauto on August 21, 2011, 06:18:24 PM
I have a 998c Si, It has worked great for almost a year. After turning it on this weekend I Lost the dialog box on the left hand side of my display that gives GPS coordinates and time. It no longer shows maps. I have checked the connections and found no problems with wires into the back of the unit and no damage anywhere on the cable to the GPS "pod". I reset to factory settings and still can not get any data. Is there any way to check the GPS "POD"?

The only way I know of to check the GPS pod is to look at the
GPS accessory view.  It will show the status and what satellites are mapped.

IMHO, the most obvious thing, and the cause of 99.9% of ALL 12 volt electrical problems
is the battery.  Load test it if you can.  Even if it charges up OK, it may not be able to sustain any load.
For a quick check, you could find another battery to hook to your unit to see if the problem
goes away.

You could also bend the power connection and gps connection at the back of your unit for
a better connection.  Only bend one side at a time or you will blow a fuse.
Good Luck.

Do you have nayone who has a GPS puck you can try on your unit or you can take your unit to his setup?  This will tell you if its the unit or the GPS reciever.  Most likely the Reciever has either gone out or the connector is bad.  Try bending the pins slightly as suggested to get a tighter fit and see what happens.  Certainly check your battery also to make sure its ok as well.

Here is a thread on troubleshooting tips.
