Title: XM screen locks up
Post by: axman on August 10, 2011, 07:51:31 AM
When in any screen or XM screen a weather warning pops up and you have to toggle the exit button to remove message or change screens . Also a check XM antenna message will come on sometimes but unit will be showing full signal. Cannot use the unit for the messages pop ups. Also I have noticed that it will power-down and then power-up on an occasion . Sent unit back for that but was sent back and said check voltage . Did that everything fine. Any ideas.

It is normal that you have to exit out of each message
before the XM will continue.  This is just a normal function of the accessory.
It would be nice in the future if a menu item would allow you to select to
display the messages for only a few seconds or to opt not to display them at all.

It sounds to me that maybe your connections (power at the back of the unit),
or XM antenna (however you have that hooked in) may be loose.
I think the check antenna message is displayed when the contact is broken
between your antenna and system.
Also, is your XM module flat against the sky with nothing interfering with it?

Your battery may also be bad.  It doesn't matter if it's new or you think it's good.
In addition to checking your battery voltage, load test your battery.
Battery voltage only shows that the battery has power, but the battery may
not be able to sustain the draw of your unit and maintain at least 10.5 volts.

I think 9 out of 10 problems are the battery and/or connections.
Good luck.

has a two battery switch the first problem was a bad battery and was replaced now each battery shows 11.6 volts. I had a cobia tower installed  but it does not cover antenna . I am wondering if the installers stepped on my antenna and perhaps damaged it. The messages are annoying that the sonar or charts cant be changed without exiting out of the whole list of messages even the earthquake warning if someway to turn XM off in good conditions would help.

If you set your area distance to I think 60 miles is the smallest,
you would get less warnings than if the area was larger.

There may be a way to turn XM off.
Look in the accessories menu.
