I had my 997 for couple years. so it work good.
What I like to know dos anyone get a blue line like 1/4" thick in the middle of the screen ?
I think it has to do with the thermline but it was there in April also so the water is to cold here in NJ to get a thermline.
But I have to lower the sensitivity down in the 200khz and the 83khz.
I am using the 200/83khz trasndurer the setting is on 12 sensitivty and -5 for the 83khz. I have suface cluter set at 3.
Its ok at this settings but I don't want to be losing any fish by it being that low on sensitivity.

jimf,
Can you post a screen snapshot of this for us to look at please?

just so we understand....this is on the 2d and not the si scan....

just on the 2D. If I lower the sensivity on the 2D 200khz and the 83khz (-10 10 ) I can make the blue line go away.
Can you get a thermline on a small lake like 250ac the lake is only 8 feet deep. I can't see having a thermline at 3 feet down...LOL
Jim
I will try to remember this Sat to take a pic. I have small bass open so I will try to take one.

Yep, I doubt you get a thermocline..... ;D
Kinda of stange, lets see what the pictures show...
Maybe we can get a better idea then.
Also a picture of your winning fish in the classic... ;D

8 foot deep lake?
Try adjusting your Surface Clutter menu setting and see if that line changes any.
Also try turning off the 83kHz sonar and see if it goes away or not.
This might just be surface clutter that you are seeing that is getting filtered out by the menu settings.

Your right about the surface clutter setting. I have done that before and you see a diffnerts, it gos away when I set it to 1 or 2. If I put it on say 5 or 8 you can't see the buttom in 5 feet of water it takes up the hole middle of the screen and you can't see any fish at all.
I didn't know if I leave it at 1 so no suface clutter shows on screen would it not show any fish also. Maybe if I leave it on setting 1 and turn the sensivity up on the 200khz I can have a better feeling that fish will show up on screen if I came across them.
That blue line is about 1/4" down from the top of screen. Just under the 0 feet mark on the right side of screen.

This does begin to sound like a clutter reading. At these shallow depth the sonar signal is very strong and the ping rate returns a lot of signals back to the surface.
Surface clutter setting have to do with the amount of algae or other surface items that will cause reflected signals.
I cant remember which units have a selectikon for ping rate. This might help if you have that unit.
It would be nice if we could control the power for shallow depths...
Reducing sensitive setting can help but will also remove or decrease the fish reflection.
On the 2d you might be experiencing a normal condition for shallow water..

I think on the 997 you can't change the ping rate. I don't see it in the settings menu.
-
There is no ping rate adjustment in our units. The closest you can come to do this is to set the Lower range menu setting but I would be that it is automatically set pretty low as it is in these water depths.
I forgot to ask: are you running the SwitchFire menu in the Clear Mode or Max Mode setting? Setting the Surface Clutter menu to a lower numerical setting (setting it to show less Surface Clutter) can affect how fish are shown, so you will have to find a balance between the Beam Select, Surface Clutter and SwitchFire menu settings that you like the best. This can change with different water conditions and water depth as well.

I have it on clear mode. Max mode has to much stuff...LOL
So I have clean mode on, surface clutter at 2 now and sensivity at 12 or 15.
If I had surface clutter set at say 7 or 8 I would have to lower sensivity also or it would have to much information on the screen.
So I would think it would be better to have less surface clutter on screen so I can keep the sensivity higher so I can see more fish.

You are right. no ping rate setting....those are on my other manufacture units. Would be nice if HB would let us set a ping rate.
