Title: New T3 switch
Post by: sonar2000 on August 03, 2011, 05:07:38 PM
Can any one elaborate on the new T3 switch...Particularily the switch its self.  Is the switch by its self just a on/off switch. Can we use a pole switch in place of the flat rocker switch.  I would prefer a pole switchover the rocker switch...

Chuck,

The TS3 and US3 are just the new versions of the Transducer Switch and Unit Switch.  Just they are rocker switches now.

I installed the T-3 switch about a week ago and it looks a bit more complicated than a simple on off switch.  You have to provide a 3amp power to the switch, and their are some transducer connections that occur inside the switch.  If you look at the installation instructions online you can understand this a bit better.  I think there is more to the switch based upon looking at it and installation.  It works well though.

I see the vast amount of connection but it seems the switch either give 12 volts to the relay or shuts its off. I measure the rocker switch and it has no resistance in one side and open inifinity on the other.  I suppose you can use a toggle switch in place.  That will mount better than the rocker switch...

I believe that the rocker switch is just that – a switch.  The second part of the TS3 is a relay that is tripped by closing the rocker switch.  Technically I believe that any type of switch could be used in its place but would bet that the official word would be not to do it – but that never stopped you before Chuck!

If it is only a on/off switch then any switch will work..The current has got to be low so dont need a big 60 amp switch. I thinhk the rerason for going to a rocker switch is cosmetics on the boat panel. I just cant see any electrical difference.
What......... me do something against engineering manufacture and void my warrenty.  Of course not.... >:D

OK...I put a 3 amp 125 volt switch in place of the rocker. It works fine. I dont see any voltage drop on the switch so it must be a contact switch for on/off.
I am thinking the reason for the rocker switch is to match boat consoles and look good...

Oh you did it now Chuck!
I’m sending in the Humminbird Police!

l placed a load resistor in line.....that way I can measure any drop accross the switch or the resistor.
The drop was all on the resistor and none on the switch.
it has to be a simple on/off contact switch....For that matter I could have used a paper clip as a jumper... ;D
send in the police.  They will need a passport to get on my property... >:D
It all works fine so I cant complain...

So the T3 is just a standard 3 position rocker switch?

What kind of wiring is required in order to switch between a pair of transducers?

The t3 switch is really two components.  The switch and the relay the switch controls...
The switch is a simple on/off switch that controls the relay.
I would suppose that an 8 lead or more switch could be used to just ttansfer the transducers.
It probably is better to have a relay in ther bottom line..
The t3 switch is a single pole single throw switch. it has input and output of the 12 volts positive to control the relay..

One thing we find in the T3 switch or rather cables is they do lock together really well.
In fact so good that we had to cut the locking tab off the t3 cable in order to make removal
of the transducer cable easy and without causing harm to the cable..
If you do not remove the cables often then the locking is very good..
