Stupid question, I do not want to mess up my 997, what is best to use to clean the screen to get finger pints off? i cant help it it hard not to point to the bew stuff that i am finding with it. lol

Officially we recommend:
“What products can be used to clean my display?
Humminbird recommends using Windex® Vinegar Multi Surface(in the spray bottle). Do NOT use any wipes products (which can also be available as the brand name Windex Multi-Task).
The lens contains a special coating which improves visibility. It is recommend to use the above cleaner because we have tested and proved this cleaner. It does not deteriorate the coatings on the lens.”

I am bumping this thread to see if anyone can tell me if it matters what kind of cloth I use to do this? Will a t-shirt work? How about one of those white cotton hand towels? I will use the recommended windex vinegar cleaner of course.
Thanks!

As Greg stated the recommend screen cleaner is Windex Multi Surface with vinegar. Be careful there are a lot of other cleaners that can damage the screen. Clean it often enough that waterspots do not build up.
A few months ago I did install a Zagg screen protector and have been very happy with it, it does protect you screen. They are expensive, there are others available which are cheaper but I do not have any experience with them. The Zagg is good but on the difficult side to install.

yes the rag does make a difference. do not use any type of linen that is abrasive. Also use a lint free linen. Certain tre-shirt will do but use none that are colored. Only the white 100 % cotton and one that has been washed clelan. Once you scratch the screen it cannot be repaired. chuck

Here is a cheaper alternative to the zagg...and easier to install...

Also, I use a microfiber cloth with solution to clean my screens. I purchase a pack of these at Home Depot at a good price.

I will have to try the microfiber.
Went out on lake for second time with the new units. My youngest son is sitting in my lap in awe of the screen, telling me he sees a log or a boulder. ( Doing pretty good I might add ). When, all of a sudden a nice school of fish pop up. He immediately pokes his finger on my screen while yelling "FISH!!".
Tried the Vinegar Windex with a clean tee-shirt...seems to leave streaks and a residue. Maybe the microfiber cloths will work. Will go to Home Depot tomorrow.

First rule in my boat,
You can point all you want, but dont touch the screen. ;D ;D

The Windex® Vinegar Multi Surface is the quick clean solution. However, if you still have water stain spots after using it, grab a microfiber cloth, wet it with warm water and apply a couple of small drops of Dawn® dishwashing liquid to the cloth. Gently wipe the screen clean with the portion of the cloth that you applied the Dawn® to, then warm rinse the cloth, wipe the screen and dry it with a couple of tissue papers. Your spots will be gone 8)

i use the Windex Vinegar Multi Surface, i put it in a small spray bottle, the micro-fiber cloth is a MUST, leave no streaks or lint, i put them in a ziploc bag and keep it in the boat, clean it offten so no water spots.

Does this apply to the screen with moisture or is there an adhesive? Also, I see they have a film for the 1197 and the 798, but nothing in between. I am assuming it can be cut down to size?
I did notice on the Zagg site that for today only the price is 50% off for orders placed today.

Another trick we have used is to have a glass cut oversize to the screen but not large enough to cover the buttons. We velcro around the screen. (On the case not the screen) and then use the opposite velcro on the glass. clean the glass with the regular windex or the multi-purpose. If the glass ever becomes scratched or is not clean then replace the glass.

I purchased a package of large MicroFiber towels from Home Depot the price was good.

Yeah, once you start using microfiber you don't want to be withouth them. You can clean a lot of stuff with nothing but water on them.
