Because of the weather here at Lake Eufaula, Ok, with lightning storms being common, I have decided to purchase a AS WX 1 XM® Satellite Weather Receiver. I ordered it from Amazon for $ 200 anw ill subscribe XM SkyWatch after I get it installed.
Does the system come with everything to connect to my 1197 or do I need to order any wires?
It has been a long time since I have been around o much lightning. The rain and hail does not bother me, but lightning can be dangerous on the lake. Any thoughts anyone?

George I think you have to also get the AS-YC cable to go between the GPS antenna, NEMA connection and the WX receiver.
I just cant remember what is basic GPS connection cableing...

I think you are right, I will change my order to include it.
Thanks

I know it does not come with the receiver. Just cant remember if the basic GPOS cable had the double end. It is around $24.00 USD..
I agree with the lightening strikes. Thunder or rain is tolerable but that electric jolt is not good.
Especially on the water.
Unless you are a diver... then you just go to the bottom and wait.. ;D.... ::)
Let us know how this new addition works for you..
Actually the XM subscription is not all that expensive...

George,
You should have gotten the AS-YC cable with your 1197c Si unit as well as with the AS-GRHA that you have listed.
Remember seeing this cable:

Thanks Greg,
I will have to check to see if I have it, it is probably still in the box. In any case I have ordered one.

The installation instructions state to install the receiver at least 3 feet from the head unit, is this necessary. What does the head unit cause, I wanted to put it next to my GPS unit.
My console is rather small and the receiver would be appx. 2 feet from the head unit. All other places would be on the deck and below the aluminum sides (3" to 6").

George,
That is just in case there is RF interference from or to the Nav Weather Receiver. The ‘3-foot rule’ or separating electronics is pretty standard. This does not mean that you have to do so though, as you can just set the Nav Weather Receiver where you want it and test to see if there is any interference. On one of our test boats we mounted it less than two feet away from the units and right in between two GPS Receivers. Looked like a bunch of mushrooms on top of the grab rail that ran around the windshield!

HMMMMMMM. looks like we will have to get bigger boats.
I can see the future.,......... ::)
Boats will now have to be computer compliant with large cabins, EMI interference cabling, a/c and of course cabin mates...
Amazing how far in computers we have come and yet still suffer a lot of the beginning problems....
It seems like products get released yet are not tested fully. This may be a bit difficult as different mfg'rg do not always talk to each other...

I have one and it works well when it is working. I often get an unauthorized channel message when I power the head unit. I have to go to my PC and reinitialize the signal from the XM website. The receiver will make a connection with the XM service after a while and all is well. I have gotten into a habit of testing reception while in the driveway so I can reinitialize as necessary before hitting the water.
