Title: 898si Installation Question
Post by: jacksnipe on May 26, 2011, 05:55:14 PM
I'm in process of installing a new 898 si unit & going over the manual on the cable hook-up to the unit, it mentions a speed/temp cable with a paddle wheel. I did not receive one of these in the box. The question here is, was I suposed to recieve this item or is it nor required. When I boot up the unit is mentions on the check out screen that speed is not installed. I have only three cables going into the back of the unit,  Power, transducer, & gps cord

On my 898 the speed is covered by the GPS and the temp by the transducer. I also originally had just power-gps and trans hooked up. Mines now networked with a second 1198c

Hey jacksnipe :)

The speedinformations comes from the GPS. You can by a paddle wheel extra, but you doesn't need it.

The Temp./Speed Sensor (TS-W) is an optional accessory and does not come with the 898c Si unit.

Either was the boat has to be moving to display speed. We have found the GPS speed to be as accurate as the wheel.  In fact sometimes better.
