Title: HB customer service
Post by: edwardpic on May 26, 2011, 04:41:27 PM
NOT GODD....My new 1198 was not seeing my 898 with the Ethernet. Called, waited 15 minutes, talked to a lady for 3 minutes, on hold for 25 minutes, she had me reset factory defaults=nothing, had me switch the Ethernet ends=nothing, had me reset defaults again, now when the 1198 powers up there is NO sonar or networking tab. Her response-Huh never seen that, SO, now I am waiting for her to talk to the engineers and see why the tabs just "went away"...NOT HAPPY AT ALL

Called back after waiting for an hour with no call back. Both Units had the same software and the networking tabs were there but went away. so I logged into my HB account before I called tech, there was a 5.5 available for both the 898 and 1198, so I was ready i downloaded both to SD card. I asked on the phone why no call back and was told they planned on calling me back the next day before 5pm....Really?...I told her I had the 5.5 on SD for both units...She told me "lets try that"...So I restored both, uploaded 5.5 to both and now the 1198 see's the 898 and transducer. WHY would HB play up "Ethernet networking" when the units shipped wont network together without US the consumer having to update. Dont you think they should think of these things BEFORE shipping units? I should never have had to do all this after spending $4300 on the units. It should be plug and play for that amount. Just my opinion.

Edwardpic I am glad you got your units squared away. There has been a lot of issues surrounding Ethernet
I personally don't use it. I have 1198 on TM and 997 on Console get along just fine separated. I just use one
at a time.   Gary

Thanks Gary, I understand HB being new to Ethernet, I was just frustrated today. It seems us as customers solve a lot of issues on our own, this forum is an awesome addition to sharing ideas and information. I have a center console boat, and wanted dual units to keep from switching screens a lot. I have a Tarpon roundup Saturday and hope all goes well with my set up. I have to say even with the issues that are frustrating, I am a happy HB user. The units seem to be talking back n forth now, and my boat has been totally rewired also, as of today I have a 3 battery system and a dedicated battery just for my electronics and t-top light.
