Title: Settings changes out of water
Post by: edwardpic on May 12, 2011, 12:32:24 PM
Is it safe to make changes to my units (not in safe mode) while the boat is out of water? Will the trandsucer be damaged? when I get my Ethernet cable I'll need to set both units up, preferably in my driveway and want to do so without causing damage.

Thanks, Ed

You can update your units in the driveway, on a bench or in your house.  The only caution is if you have the transducer extender cable installed and you disconnect the transducer.
You will be fine for updates and in fact a lot do just that way. Download to the computer and sd card and take to the boat in the driveway.

ED

I have a 2 switches (3 places for transducers) to go between transducers and one is empty right now, when playing with my system out of the water, I switch to the empty side.

If you play a lot with the system out of the water this might be some protection for your transducers.

George,
It may help protect the transducers while out of the water (as they will not be running) but it will possibly cause harm to the Si sonar transmitter circuits in your Si unit if you are operating in the normal operating mode with the unit connected to a transducer switch and there is no transducer connected to the unit through the switch.

Thanks Greg

It sounds as if I am better off leaving the transducer connected and turning it off at the unit.

Either that or make the unit go into the 'forced' simulator mode.  In this mode it does not transmit to the transducer (regardless of what is connected to it).
