I ended up mounting my transducer on the trim tab beside the current one for my lower bridge fish finder. Of course I can't run both at the same time but that is not an issue. It was the only clear spot I could get. It works at the dock....we will see what happens when I move! The boat is a low speed boat to begin with. I usually fish at 2.4 to 2.6 knots and cruise at around 8.
I do wish humminbird was more clear on what usually comes with a unit and what is clearly an option.
I assume the standard transducer with the 798cx si is not the Quad.
Now comes learning how to use the unit!

I don't know if you realize this, but you have the same picture shown four times.

lolar3288,
The standard transducer for all 798 units (cx or other models) is the XNT-9-Si-180-T transducer. Why do you think you have a QuadraBeam transducer?
-
I didn't think I had the Quad ....but there is no where in the box or manual that states the name and number of the standard transducer, just that the Quald is optional....the manual doesn't do a good job in stating the specifics of all the units it covers in my opinion.
Sorry about the pictures....I had separate photos but something got screw up in the down loading. When I clicked on more attachments it didn't actually give me them, just a repeat of two.

I fixed up the pictures. You can see the side view of the whole stern.

We tested this setup today and it seems to work well. Straight down fish finding work fine up to 7 knots and maybe faster as we did not go above 7 knots.
Side scan from 2 up to 6 knots again seems to work fine but I need more time to figure out how to set up the side scan, which colours work best, etc. We did get responses and I could see the hull when passing a docked freighter. I will start a new post on side scan settings to learn more in regard to setting it up but the transducer placement seems to be ok. ;D
