I have a 898c SI at the console and a 788ci at the bow, my 898 has the new 5.4 sw uploaded for ethernet. My question is do I have to wait for a sw upgrade for the 788 before I can share way points between the two units using ethernet? Or...??

I dont think the 788c is Ethernet capable. You need the new 788 HD for Ethernet capable

Trytoofish is correct: you have to have one of the new 788ci HD or 788ci HD DI units to be able to have an Ethernet connection to another unit. The older 788ci units (no “HD” designation in the model number) do not have the Ethernet connector or the circuitry to do this.
If you do have a 788ci HD or 788ci HD DI unit than the 5.410 Ethernet software that you need should be in your Humminbird account. Load it into your unit and they should start sharing waypoints if connected by the Ethernet cables.

Oh, ok, I see, well will they work with interlink system then? If so do I have to remove the 5.4 sw version and reload the 5.2 sw version on my 898c SI?
-
Yes it will. however search this forum for interlink issues. The software has problems. sometimes it may work and for others it does not.....
take some time to do the search.
you will find out a lot....
