Title: Another Interlink Problem (787 and 798)
Post by: War Eagle on March 23, 2011, 09:07:24 AM
I purchased a 787 3 years ago. I recently decided to purchase a 798 for the console and place the old 787 on the bow. The problem came when I interlinked. I did not get on the internet to see all these problems others were having. I installed the interlink and the instructions said and hooked up the units after an update to the most up to date software. At initial hookup the 798 saw and uploaded to the interlink. I then plugged up the 787 and got an error message on the 798 that the 787 unit must be updated and was not currently compatible. I read the instructions and then made my biggest mistake. DO NOT SWAP THE UNITS AND PLUG THE OLDER UNIT INTO INTERLINK PORT #1. It tryed to reprogram the interlink and neither unit has seen the interlink since. I then called huminbird and to find out new software was available (but not public) by calling humminbird. Even with the updated software niether unit will see the interlink. Once i get a reprogrammed interlink all my problems should be behind me.

Humminbird has now told me that the interlink is backorded and will be in Eufaula on 4/26/11 which is 5 weeks from now. The interlink is in stock from the humminbird internet store but humminbird assures me that i will have to wait 5 weeks. I would even take a refund of my $130 for the interlink and i could have one by the end of the week.

I just want everyone to know about my mistakes and not make the same mistakes. I think that it is ridiculous that humminbird is going to take 5-6 weeks to replace my unit when their mistakes have put me in this position. I just want all this behind me.

IF YOU ARE INSTALLING AN INTERLINK PLEASE CALL HUMMINBIRD FIRST AND ASK THEM OF ANY PROBLEMS BEFORE OPENING THE BOX.

If you are a member or a viewer, search this forum and you will see many "hits" on just this problem.
Glad you posted on the ordering process from HB.

Hopefully the information can get out on the associated problems people are having on the interlink and the software..

Chuck

UPDATE

My interlink that was supposed to be returned to me in 5 weeks is already on its way after only 1 week. You can't beat a one week turnaround. Thank you HB.
