Anyone having a problem with the 997 freezing up and not working? Unplug it and it will work for a while and freeze up again.

Where are we talking in your house out on the lake or what ? Must be in your
house if you are unplugging it. I would look for a power issue.

The unit is in the boat, I can unplug it by taking the connector off the bck of theunit like I always do to store it.

I too had this problem. Check your power wires all the way back to the battery. To fix my problem I ran new wires from the battery to the console just for the unit. The stock wires were too small.

Power wire size is everything. What size wire are you using to supply the HB????

Have it plugged into the fuse block of the boat. Have had it hooked there for a year with no problem till now

OK, but not to say the connection has changed. Loosened up, corroded or fraying. Just requesting that you recheck the electrical connection(s).
You might check the plug at the back, removing and reconnecting over time can loosen the plug pins.
There is a hint to slightly bend the male connectors so as to increase the connection pressure on the unit plug cable.

Just ran new 16 ga wire from batterey to unit , seems to be running ok will laet it run for a while to see if it locke up again. Thanks for the help.....

If you use anything else than 16 guage then it may cause problems depending on the length. For electronics We use 16 guage and for motors I may go as high as 12 guage and this is hard copper.
If it is 24 volts we may go to 10 guage.
Generally we stay away from stranded wire.
And also aluminum wire is a nono..

Use 16 ga wire only around 8 ft from battery to 997. Unit has been running for almost 2.5 hrs without freezeup. May have problem solved.

What size wire was there originally? Was it hard or stranded..?
