I have a 898c SI combo with sw ver. 4.830 and a 788 CI HD DI with sw ver. 5.290. I have connected the two with an Ethernet cable, but can't get the two units to communicate. I want to share waypoints from the 898 at the console with the 788 on the trolling motor at the front.  I can find in setup on the 788 a place to configure network settings, but on the 898 I don't see any place for this.
Do I need to to upgrade sw and to what version? Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!

Interesting that the 788 has the ethernet menu already.  Technically, HB has not officially released the ethernet update for the 898, 998, 997, etc.  So it is not going to work just yet.

I talked to a very nice lady at hummingbird today - she told me I needed to update the sw ver. To 5.1 on the 898 and that I also needed interlink. She said that I would only be able to share sonar with the Ethernet
Cable not GPS or waypoints, so it's back to BPS to return the Ethernet
 Cable and get interlink.

I would not return that Ethernet cable and would instead wait on the software that will turn on the Ethernet capability in both units.  I don’t know when this will be released but hopefully it will not be too much longer.  The Ethernet connection will have the ability to share waypoints as well as sonar.  I think that someone (may have been me) has posted the information on what can be shared across the Ethernet connection already.
