Title: Transducer Model Question?
Post by: jnaron_ngc on February 20, 2011, 10:21:34 AM
Hi Ya'll

After digging around it seems that transducers are mentioned alot as a possible reason for no fish on screen.

Can anyone tell me what transducer I should use for optimum performance with the latest firmware update? I am wondering if my original transducer (Dual Beam I Think)  that came with the unit in 2007 might not be up to snuff. Although I can see SI images very well, lots of logs in most of  my lakes, I never see any obvious fish images, like I see on the images shared by forum members. I fish one particlar lake that has no bottom structure at all, and has huge schools of crappie, but my unit never sees them, while my Eagle sonar that came on my Pro Crappie 175 sees tons of fish. Please help this is killing me!!

jnaron,

The transducer that originally came with your 797 should be a compact SI transdcuer.  It is perfectly capably of showing fish in the SI/DI mode.

What may help is to post some snapshots from your unit of some structure or suspected fish.  It will show us what you are seeing and maybe help us give you some ideas on how to get those fish to show up.

Here is some good reading.

Make sure that all other sonar are off when you make these snapshots.
I would also reset all menus back to the factory settings and than set the Beam Select menu to the 200/83 setting and make sure that SwitchFire is set to the Max Mode.
