Mom the kids down the road have got there update. Wheres mine ? Now Joey l have told you before H/B are busy..But Mom l have the 1197 l should have got the update first because it cost more then theres. Those kids down the road are making fun at me. Yes l know l will ask HB Greg for you he might have some news. Now off you go and play ...Thanks mom

I'm curious also.
Hey Greg,
When will the newest update for the 1197c si be out?
Thanks.
-
I thought the release order was a little strange also. :-\
-
I can tell you 5.210 will not be released for the 1197 or 997. It will be 5.320 or greater. Remember, just because the units perform the same does not mean the engineering, electrocnics, components, etc are the same, and therefore may need different changes to the software.
Version 5.320 is out for testing on the 1197 and 997 and may be released soon, but not all versions released for testing get released to the public.
Only the HB guys know for sure which version will make the cut!

Well,
As long as the version that they do finally release works good, REAL GOOD.
You all know what I'm sayin?

This news is definately exciting...Pins and needles...pins and needles oh my...!! :D
-
Thanks for the update Robert.
I was wondering if the 1197 and 997 might get the ethernet and other new features at the same time. 8)
-
The update is worthless right now because when I updated my 998, it would no longer recognize the interlink with my 1198, because the 1198 needs to be updated, BUT THERE IS NO UPDATE!! So I reinstalled the previous 4.9 version on my 998.
You think HB would release updates at the same time for each unit, especially if just updating one creates a problem.
-
I think this one caught them by surprise. If they would have known I am sure they would have warned users.

Guys (and you too Mom), I have heard no official release dates for any of the software. Until I do hear something official, I will not post as to when the software will be ready as it is all just speculation up that point. A new version of software could be scheduled to be ready on a certain date but could get delayed if a problem is found during testing or if a new feature gets added to it.
As for the 1197: it is not about the cost of the unit, it is whether it is currently in production or not. The 1197 is not but there are units that cost less that still are in production at this time, so they get the updates first.
-
I hope that just because the unit is not in production that updates are not being considered.
Poor way of supporting the product..
Unless of course the idea is to replace the 1197 with 1198 and to make the upgrade to the new unit a trade in option with some differential in cost (as in buy back) for the returned old non-production unit...d
I would gladly upgrade if this were the case...
Chucks

I asked a similar question to this about sending my 1197 in and getting the new brighter 1198 screen installed (for a price), but the answer was no. The units aren't really designed to easily upgrade and swap parts.
Also, there is really no advantage for Humminbird to buy back/trade in older units. What would they do with them?
The technology keeps moving forward.
Like computers, within about 3 years any sonar model is obsolete with something much better being available.
The good thing about the 1197 is that the hardware is practically identical to the 1198(except for the brighter screen), which means that we will probably get a few more updates for it before it is considered to be old stuff.
-
I think it will be a good while before the 700,800, 900, 1100 units become non updatable. They are still updating the original 987SI from 6 years ago.

I think that the Engineers are busy getting the InterLink to work in some of the current units and than work on the same for older out of production units. I know that the 5.320 software that has been released for some of the units (with more to follow) allegedly fixes the InterLink issue. I only say allegedly because I want to talk to someone who has seen it work before giving it the ole’ thumbs up.
It shouldn’t be too long before the 1197 gets the 5.320 update as it is already listed in the release notes on the Humminbird web site:
• “Frequently Asked Questions

Sorry Robert, but I’ve been too busy to check what updates are already on the Humminbird web site versus the ones that will be. ::)
