Title: Mounting 798 c SI and 898 c SI
Post by: HBK on January 27, 2011, 09:35:24 PM
I just sold my boat and im picking up my new to me skeeter this weekend. My hope is to mount a 798 on the bow and a 898 at the console. My question is if i do this how easy is it to link them and exactly what will I need? second i plan on putting a new fortrex 101 on this boat with the built in transducer...good idea or not? anyone had good or bad experiences? and can the 798 be used with that? Lastly if I wanted to run as cheap as possible would it be possible to just buy the 898 and get a second mounting post to put up front and just switch back and forth from when Im running to when I troll....you know to save that 1000 bucks on another unit and the other 200 to get them interlinked? or is that something not suggested.
Thanks for all the help.

#1 issue: the built-in trolling motor transducers for any brand/model are not SI capable, but you can use it for 2D only with those units. If you plan on using SI on the trolling motor now or in the future, the built-in transducer is a useless feature for Humminbird equipment.

#2 issue: the transom mount Compact SI transducer does not have internal shielding so you will need to exchange it for the XTM 9 SI 180 T transducer or upgrade to the XTM 9 HDSI 180 T transducer for use on the trolling motor for SI use with the 798.

#3 issue: if you get the 798ci HD SI, you can use ethernet to connect to the 898. If you can find the older model 798 then you will need Interlink to connect them together.
