New to this SI game, have not purchased yet, gleaning tons of info from here!!! I need to know if any models offer video out so I could use a flat screen or lap top to get a bigger picture? Kinda blind  ;D  And if available is the vid out in real time with the display on the unit?
 Thanks, Rick

The models indicated on the Humminbird website for the VC-1 video cable is the 1155c
 1157c
 1197c SI
 998c SI
 958c
 898c SI
 858c
I know for sure the 1198 does and I have the cable awaiting the delivery of the 1198.
That feature is not promoted by Humminbird it seems, since it is not listed in any of the specs.
The problem with a usable outdoor monitor is sunlight readeable, power source, and moisture. The only ones I have seen via internet search cost about what the unit costs or higher.
I purchased a couple of the auto DVD player satellite screens for testing and those are not water resistant or sunlight readeable (haven't tested that yet).
Since they are made for auto use, I know they can handle any temperature extremes though. I got a good deal on them (2 for $80)  but they are just 5.8" screens--just something to play with.

				Wayne,
Glad to hear you are researching this.  I am still very interested in it myself but have a lot of other things to get up to speed on first.

Let us know how your test go.
-
The video out is an RF signal and can be process by any device capable of an RF input.
What has been lacking today is the ability record the video out.
I am currently testing a new device to records video out either making a JPEG frame or a .VID movie.
So far it is working well.
Toughbookk or notebooks designed for sunlight viewing can process the video output with some minor changes to software...

Sounds great, please keep us informed how it goes.

-
I received the 1198 today and hooked up one of the 5.8" monitors to it to see if it worked. Sure did. The upper small screen is it, showing a Simulated 2D and DI view that duplicates the 1198 view.

I can see some sort of video out device will be in my future.  I need to see the unit from the console, bow, and kicker postition.....now way I am going to be able to afford a SI unit for all 3 locations.

Now we just need some remote buttons. ;D

				Hi Wayne!

Can you post a picture of better quality of only the 5.8" screen to show us the "quality" a user should expect from this setup?

 Thanks!
-
				This is the 5.8" monitor

-
This is the unit hooked up to a 32" flat panel TV.
Your choice is whatever screen size you want as a remote.

Wow, this is nice Wayne. I did not find a lot of documentation about video-out on my unit (1197SI). Where did you connect the unit to and what cables do you use ?

 Greetings,
 Del
-
Del  you use the Video out on the back of the unit.  Use the cable provided by HB and connect to a monitor or tv with video in.
It is RCA connector at the monitor or TV....

Yes, I used the video out on the back of the unit with the Humminbird part # VC-1
I already have my DVD recorder/player hooked up to my TV so I  just used the video-in on that

It has the regular RCA connections for video-in devices like TV, video recorders, etc. Simple and easy hookup with no adjustment needed on the unit.

I just took this a few minutes ago with some better lighting in the room and the settings of the displays adjusted a little better.
-
Do you have to use Humminbird #VC-1 or can a person get it from another place?

-
				Yes Dubldown,

you have to use the VC-1 cable, because it has a special Humminbird connector for the head unit. The RCA connectors are standart connectors.

You can order it from different online shops or might even get it from a Humminbird dealer near you.

Here in OZ...... HB advertises the VC-1 cable as suitable for the 1100 model only . Is this the case or does it suit 898cx SI as well which it looks like it should. Surely there is only one cable for all suitable models with video out.

-
Every unit with the Video Out port can use the VC-1 cable.
Humminbird marketing is not very good with keeping up with their accessory stuff or even getting the features of each unit accurate on their website.
-
When the VC-1 was developed, the only unit that could use it was the 1100 series units.

We are trying to get the web site corrected as we now have someone here at Humminbird that can make changes to portions of it (but not all pages).  If anyone sees any mistakes please let me know via e-mail (a link to the page would be helpful) so we can get it corrected.

I have played with the video output on my 1197 some; I initially thought it might be a very useful feature.  However 2 issues have pretty much waylaid those plans:

1 - the video output is at the screen resolution, no better.  Since I already had a large screen in the 1197, I was not at all impressed with any added detail on a remote LCD monitor.  Given that large, bright/high contrast, waterproof LCDs are more costly than the 1197, the motivation to have a remote display on the boat seemed weak - I already have another sonar on the TM.

2 - It seems that the 3rd party SI viewers that are available display the full SI sonar data, with the result that the best viewing of the SI sonar data is on a large LCD screen at home, in a dimly lit room.  No need to remove the 1197 from the boat - you get better images on your PC screen.

Edit - Except when I need to see a contour map during the recording - then the 1197 comes in the house, as you cannot see the (proprietary) contour maps except on the 1197, with the map chip also in.  I have played recordings on the PC and 1197 at the same time on a few occasions, it is instructive.

				I'm still not clear here.

Can  I just use a regular RCA video cable and plug it into my 17 inch flat panel screen? Or do I half to buy the cable from Hummingbird?

 Thanks

 Kevin

If you want to plug into the video out of any Humminbird that
has it, you MUST use the VC-1 cable.
It has a special end on it that hooks to the unit.
It is only sold by Humminbird.

The cable comes with a standard VCA video end on it to
hook up to whatever type screen you want.
