My unit is 2 years old, no problems whatever, keep the updates current, but fishing at night - the screen destroys my night vision. I do the bright/dim adjustment (on the shutdown screen) and it dims but is still WAY to bright. I've even tried sunglasses.
Any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

What about using a tinted shield?
My 2 cents....

On ships they use red lights to improve their night vision. Have you thought of trying some red cellophane, their are different degrees of red color. If it works you could purchase red plexiglass and bend it to hang over your screen and or make a box.
Cellophane might stick to the screen making it easy to remove.
The red might interfere with any red coloring on the display.

Try this for night viewing. When unit is on and operating in navigating mode push power on/off switch once, this will give you a light and background screen select background and select black then select the light and move slider bar to adjust the amount of light you require.
The white is good for daytime
the blue for early morning or last light
the black screen for night
Good luck

I,ve tried the dark background and this does help some. I was wondering if I was missing a deep inside setting.
Thanks for your help tho.

Did you adjust the light slider as well whilst in the black setting.

Lots of suggestions which leads me to believe that my unit is OK, and an "add-on" solution is in order.
I will try;
a smoke type cover
a Red filter type cover
and will report back here with the results.
Thanks go to everyone for the advice.
