Hi guys,
Am a newbie to the forum but not to Humminbird. Old boat had a 997, which I loved but new boat (Yamaha 242L) does not have the room so went with 798ci SI. The issue I face is mounting it. Where I want to put is so it is easy to see and access means that the standard mount make is to high. Anyone knopw of any aftermarket mounts for the 798. The alternative is that I am going to have to fabricate one out of alluminim.
Cheers

It is hard to make suggestions without information about the mounting conditions you are facing.
I currently have a 16 foot aluminum boat with a console that I fabricated. I had an 3/8" thick aluminum plate made up with a 2" round piece bored out to for 1/2" conduit and welded to the plate. I mounted a piece of conduit pipe attached to the console. The plate sits on top of the pipe. One thing that is nice is that I swing it for viewing from the console or the trolling motor.

I will get a picture and post it.

Hi,
Here is a picture of teh dash and approximately where I want the 798C to sit and the mounting area. With the 997 the brackey simply had two bolts that held in in place but from the pictures and manual the 798 is quick release and the two knobs as just to allow it to be adjusted back anf forth. However it I were to undo these completely will it disconnect the unit from the base.

There are no "knobs" on the 798 mount. The swivel and tilt are within the mount and not adjustable. Ratchet stops in the joints hold the unit in position.
To remove the display from the mount, you push a large button on the back of the display itself and pull it off the mount.
The connecting cables are in the mount so it makes the setup a "plug and play" assembly.

You do not have a lot of room as stated. It appears that one of the Ram mounts might work. If you look at the picture, this might work. Some of the Ram mounts have longer barrels. It appears that a longer barrel might be better.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I looked at the mounts in the picture but I will need to re measure bu tright now I think I might not have the height to install with the base attached. If not looks like I will have to do the usual and fabricate a mount.

Why not mount the 798 on the horizontal part of the dash to the right or left of the steering wheel and in front of the instruments?
With the 45 degree orientation of the screen polarization, the place where the cup holder is would be the best. Just fabricate a plate to replace the cup holder and you won't have to drill any more holes in your console.

Hi,
Looked at that but cannot cover the gauges as need to see both tacho's to match engine revs and also they are multifunction so I need to see the LCD panel in the bottom.

Sorry Firebird and others - maybe i should have created a new topic but i decided not to...
My question is whether it is somehow possible to mount 1197 somewhere near the console at such a boat with a wraparound windshield (TRACKER Pro Guide V-16 WT):
http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/?boat=3251 (http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/?boat=3251)
if there was no large windshield (like at TRACKER Pro Guide V-16 CS with side console)
http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/?boat=3250 (http://www.trackerboats.com/boat/?boat=3250)
...it would be possible to mount 1197 at a ram mount aside, but what to do if you have a large walk-thru windshield and willing to use a BIG screen?

You should look at the RAM mounts there are a lot of different configuration, one of them may work for you boat.

Hi from Germany.
I have even used the ram mounts to made my 798c si unit mobile and for a use on different boats.
for the main unit i have taken a piece of wood and cut it in form to install my externel GPS on one ram mount which is special for Humminbird units.

Then i have bought 2 normal ram mounts and one ram mount arm. One of the mounts is for a fix installation on my own boat and one is with a suction holder. With the suction holder i can fix my 798 on all smooth places at different boats.

With my last boat i had the same problem like you. But with the ram mount arm i can take my 798 unit in many different positions and also take it away from the window of my last boat.
The transducer is installed at a employers bar (http://www.angel-schlageter.de/EcholoteFishfinder/Zubehoer/Geberstangen/Edelstahl-Highspeed-Geberstange--1453.html (http://www.angel-schlageter.de/EcholoteFishfinder/Zubehoer/Geberstangen/Edelstahl-Highspeed-Geberstange--1453.html))
I hope this pics can help you to find your own best way to install your Humminbird. For example there are many different ways to use ram mounts.
