Title: Transducer location help
Post by: stuklose on November 10, 2010, 11:41:23 PM
I have just replaced my Himminbird 717 with a 798c. I placed the new transducer where the old one was located and went for a run. The 717 worked fine upto 20knots.

On the 798 the 2d sonar dropped out once i got on the plane at 13knots. I would get not pictur3e and measurement between 1 ft and 500ft. I then assumed it was too high.

I have since dropped the transuder down 10mm and will give it a run on the weekend.

Can someone have a look at my current setup and give me some feedback please.[attachment=1][attachment=2]

stuklose,
If your 717 read the bottom at up to 20 knots than your new 798 should be able to do the same thing.  All you have to do is work at getting the transducer ride height and angle just right.  If lowering it does not help enough than try angling the back end down a degree or two and see if that helps.
