Title: SI shallow water settings?
Post by: newkid4si on November 09, 2010, 02:00:58 PM
Interested in suggestions for shallow ( 5'- 15' FOW-  ) settings for 998csi.
Range, increase/ decrease from auto sens., scroll speed, 455 or 800 kHz etc?
Have experience in deep water.
Looking for lost centerboard from sailboat.
Bottom content should be slight mud to semi-hard.
Water has poor visibility. Boater as general idea of location.
When he found out the replacement cost was $4,000., he ask us to look for it.

Use the Red/Green pallet for SI and look for the shape of the centerboard.
Set the sensitivity to lessen the amout of red shown overall.
Set the range to 50' or less.
When you get a suspected target, lessen the range to verify the shape.

Found the centerboard today. Tried your suggestion with the Red/Green but the bottom was to hard.
Shape was the key. Speared straight in the bottom. Amber II showed the best picture.
                  Thanks,

Greg
     Yes we did, ...sorta!
The images are on a recording. We were making recordings to give us something
to learn with on the PC after the ice forms. Been around 30 here the last 3 nights.
My friend is very computer knowledgeable; I, on the other hand-- not so much!
Now is our chance to get the info on memory cards.
I did learn the hard way ( naturally ) not to take a snapshot while recording.

Tip for the new people--- DO NOT try to make a snap shot while recording!
It will TRASH your info.  Ruined more than one recording ( slow learner here )
by getting excited and pushing the mark button when we saw a target.

Will post some images later. Have sunken boats, sand dredge, fish cribs, centerboard etc.
