I received a call today from a buddy who said his GPS on his 898 and stopped working.  Trying to figure out over the phone, he told me the GPS screens didn't even show up on the screen.  In advance before I look at his unit, I know to check the connection from the antenna on the back of the unit.

I also plan to check the status check on what is working and not working at the start up then menu.

Any advise other than these listed above to give me a heads up.

 Thnx

First where is the GPS antenna located, should have a reasonably clear view to the sky, some canopies block the signals. Try relocating

Should should pull the GPS connection and replug it in (probably done).

The next is to use someone's GPS antenna that is working.

Hopefully it is not the unit itself.  May want to contact HB's customer service.

You have probably went thru this.

If all that checks out and it looks like the GPS Receiver is the culprit; try removing the black plastic cap on the end of the shorter second (NMEA ‘pigtail’) wire that comes out of the connector for the GPS Receiver.  There should be three wires with one of them being Red.  Make sure that it is not making electrical connection to the others and try the GPS Receiver again.

FYI: If the unit does not ‘see’ a working GPS Receiver it will not show any of the GPS related Views or menus in the normal operational mode.
