I ordered a Zagg screen protector for the 1197 and I cut it down to fit my 998.  I got tired of dealing with water spots.  Even on dry days, the screen got spattered from casting.  The screen protector improved viability for me as it cut down on glare and reflection.  NuShield is also an option.

I wish Humminbird would team up with one of these vendors to offer this option for all their models as a Humminbird accessory.

I have been using a product from a company called Screen Patronus that has worked flawlessly.  Installs easy with no air bubbles, can be removed, cleaned, and reused.

You can purchase them on ebay and they make one for every Humminbird SI unit.
