Title: 898si C Power
Post by: TazzMan on June 29, 2010, 08:28:33 AM
I am looking at buying this unit but  have a few questions about it.  On humminbirds website it says this unit can have 8000w Peak to peak with a 1kw transducer and the units power in put is 12 to 20volts input. Does this mean i can hook it up to a 24volts for more power to the unit for better reading or do you have to use a power regulator to keep the watts at 20 or below. I did not refer to a part# for the tranducer for the up grade for better power out put.

I am in Iraq on the internet try to find a good unit for my bass boat i just got this year.  I just want the beast bang for the buck in a humminbird si unit.   I have 2 humminbird units already. A 565 unit and a 787c with built in GPS and quadrabeam transducer.

Anyone who can help me with my questions Thanks in advance.

The higher power output is for 2d depth reading in very deep water.  If you are in less than 500' of water you would not have  need for the higher power transducer.

TazzMan, This is a 12 volt unit. If you connect it to 24 volts you will see it smoken!
The voltage range on the unit is to accomadate the uneven voltages from engine alternators, battery chargers, etc.

Thnaks for the help. I just wanted to make sure I had all the information correct and I can pick the right unit.  Don't want to kill it before I can even get started.
