Ok folks.....I'm going to try this on my own in few few days.
I first will have to download onto my SD card.
It may sound like a repeat question and request, but just to make sure I do not fall into the club of "messing" up my 898, I will need step by step directions. Both on downloading to the SD card and then transfering the new update to my 898 unit.
I know there are places and steps so help is needed with me.
Thanks to all

I thought platinum charts didn't work in the 7XX Series. Is Humminbird just being lazy and copy/pasting in it's release notes?
-
Maybe a little of both! As I understand it, you can use the Platinum Charts with the 700 series, you just will not be able to use all the features!

Hi guys,
the Platinum comment in the 797c release notes caught my eye too. I just stuck 2010 Platinum North in my updated 797c and basically the chip acts like Premium North - no Aerial views at all - just 2D maps.

The file size of the new version for the 798ci is 4 KB larger than the previous version.
-
They have always been Navionics Compatible and were able to accept and read the Platinum card, you just don't get the "Platinum" features!

Does Humminbird PC need to be used? Can the file not just be downloaded and copied onto the SD card? Other than having a personal profile added, what is the advantage of using Humminbird PC for a firmware update?

No, you can just copy and paste the file to the SD Card. No real benefit. I just did the video because that was how Humminbird recommended doing the update. You would also be surprised how many people do not know how to copy and paste a file.
