Title: side imaging has gone to crap...
Post by: Mills on June 14, 2010, 12:55:14 PM
I just installed a 997 on my 95 bass cat sabre.  Softward version 4.750 (about to upgrade to 4.950).  Using hopmaps platinum. Transducer mounted on right side above bottom step on hull...similar to other pics i have seen.  Power comes from extra power supply under console.  At first it worked great.  I swithed to the 800 khz setting and it was clearer than the 455 khz setting as stated in the manual.  Then I added a second thru hull tranducers from my old Matrix 77 for high speed 2d sonar.  I used the manual switch cable for the install.  At first it worked fine. Then it seems about the time i properly neatly routed all the cables the imaging became very bad.  I had the si transducer cable routed beside the gps cable and had no problems. Then i put the second transducer cable beside them and that is about when the problems started.  I backtracked all the way to having just the si transducer plugged in direct to no avail.  Right now I can only get usable side imaging if in 455 khz mode, sensitivty at max, contrast at 0.  Any suggestions?  Could I have messed up my si transducer?

Just spoke with Humminbird service and they said the transducer switch likely burned up a part in my unit. Now i have to send it back and have it fixed.  I should have used the y cable.

Thanks for the update.   Sorry to hear this news, but HB will fix it for you.   Let us know when you are back in service.
