Title: 2 units with interference
Post by: jimf on May 24, 2010, 10:02:40 AM
I never had a problem with interfer until yesturday on the water.
I have a 997c si and a eagle 480
I have eagle on front of boat running on one battery and the 997 on the same battery. But both units have there own cables off one battery.
The fuuny thing is when I turn the 997 trasducer from 200/83 to just 200 there is alot less interfernce and when I trun it to the 83 khz the interfence gos away.
I think my eagle is on 200khz. Do you think I can change to eagle 200khz ?
I like to keep the 997 at 200/83
One morething...I used to have the senisty at 12 for the 997 (200/83) and 5 for the 83khz.
I changed the 997 to 16 senisty (200/83) and -5 for 83khz.
By lowing the senisty from 16 back to 12 the senisty gos away. But I can see better fish at 16.

PS its just funny because it never happen before until I rasied the senisty to 16.

Jim

In my younger days I worked at a marina and  have installed several units over the years. Interference is a strange thing for sure. I can remember installing the exact same units on two boats and one would have problems and the other wouldn't. I have installed two different brands and they worked fine together while the next time I installed them they didn't. Personally I have ran boats from 14' to 22' and never had a problem but friends have had constant problems.

Sometimes it would make one want to pull their hair out  :)

Thanks
Thats what I mean. I didn't have a problem until last week. The only thing I'm thinking is the water in deeper in this lake (20feet) and just maybe the 2d sonar unit in the humminbird 997 the cone might be to big and it is hitting the eagle cone underwater near the bottom or the bottom is a hard bottom and the humminbird is picking the other fish finder up.
That is the thing both humminbird and eagle runs on a 200khz trasducer.
I will see what happens taking it out again.

I have the same problem with my 997 and my Lowrance 334 on the bow  but the interference is only on my 997. I was thinking my minkota with  the built in transducer  has a bit of a backwards lean and maybe the sound was reflecting back towards the 997 transducer. I'm going to try re wiring them to different batteries this weekend and see if that helps.  It can drive you crazy luckily it's my partner that has to look at the 997 when we fish.

I think your right. I think the sonar reflex back to the other sonar.
I was fishing my shallow lake last week and I didn't see it. This friday going back to the lake I fish in that is a deeper lake and harder bottom. I will see if it happens again.
I set the noise filter lower to stop noise but that didn't do nothing so I think it is the sonar to sonar thing.
