Title: Dr Depth and SD data
Post by: ZEUS on May 11, 2010, 01:24:31 PM
In order to make a bathy chart do I need to save the track on my HB unit in order to get data for position and depth or is auto stored when running and exported with all data when you export to SD?

The saved track on the unit becomes greyed and shows on the chart which can be a pain in the butt when going over the same area many times.
Any help appreciated to save me messing around for hours.

PS I do not want to run DR Depth live via nmea as would prefer to play at home.  The Sidescan version obviously requires the recorded file of SI data.

when we are mappingf (bathymetric),  We record just the area to be mapped.  If we exported all data the map would be really funny.

Sonar,

2nd pic.  after I have been up and down the area I am interested in or drifted over it half a dozen times while fishing slightly spaced drifts do I have to save track on my 987C and then export??

The reason for using sd card / home pc is so i can correct for tidal data with WXtide32  the tide range here is 12m so in the shallows makes a MASSIVE difference.

I am sure it may make more sense after a play on the water and some patience.

1st Pic,  I know i need to start / save a recording then put this into Dr Depth for mozaic of side scan

With the first picture, you use the same recording.
import in in drdepth, then a drdepthfile will be created.

Open that, calculate a map from it and show it in 3d.

ZEUS, For good bathymetric maps you want to cover a large area so that all depths can be extracted. The pictures you posted are good and the best map will be produced from the data where you have the overlapping runs. (all one recording)
If you have the recorded file you can send to me (www.transferbigfiles.com (http://www.transferbigfiles.com)) and I will make a bathymetric for you.

Include in the transfer the .DAT and the record containing the .SON and .IDX files)

The simple answer here is you cannot use saved tracks in Dr. Depth to create a bathymetric or mosaic map.  You need to record to an SD card then import/convert in Dr. Depth.  Once the conversion is done you open the created file in Dr. Depth.
