I know this is a sideimaging site but I would like to know what is the difference between the software 4.730 which I currently have and 4.780 for my 788. I am having shallow water performance issues. Digital depth jumps between 3 -12 ' and any number in between when I enter water less then 5-6'.

I have forwarded this on to Greg. He probably going to be the only one who can truly answer this accurately!

According to the release notes there was nothing added/changed in the 4.780 software that affects the depth reading programming.
Try this: reset all the menus back to the factory defaults using the Restore Defaults menu. Tan set the Water Type menu to the “Deep (salt)” setting and the Surface Clutter menu to 9.
If that does not help you can always try going back to the 4.730 software. I have it of you would like to try that.

I have a 788ci w/ the 4.730 software. I have shallow water performance issues with this unit as well my "new" 98 si unit. I talked with Jennifer at HB yesterday. She indicated a new software version should help the problem. The new software should be posted soon.

I have the new version. It does help the shallow but now I have the same problem with depth over 10 ft. I am dealing with another problem before I try to work on this one. My suggestion is to have the depth lines showing on the right and remove the depth box on the left.

I just updated my 788ci to the latest software and it fixed my shallow water depth problem.
