Title: towed or not
Post by: tournevase on December 18, 2025, 04:51:12 AM
hi everybody

i implement side imaging in rivers for archeological survey purposes.
the max depth is 4,5 m
the side range reach 2 x 50 m
today the transducer is attached to the boat under 25 cm of water
i wonder if it should be smart to use a towfish and at what depth
a problem should be when sailing near the bank line where it is too shallow

Hi, I have used a towfish and hull mounted transducers alot. It's possible to use a towfish close the surface, but it's so much simpler with hull mounted gear. I use hull mounted in waters much deeper than 4,5 m, down to about 20m with good results (in calm weather conditions).
Regards,
Rickard
