Hey everyone, hopefully I posted in the right section. I am finally entering the sideimaging/downimaging world and have an 898 on its way to my doorstep in the next couple of weeks. ;D While I am eagerly awaiting its arrival, I have read the manual many times over and am now contemplating on the most optimal placement of the transducer. Here are pics of the back of my boat(not as nice looking as most of your boats I know :( ). Hope to hear your suggestions!! Thanks.

Is this the stepped hull (is there a step under the transom that we can’t see in the pictures you posted?)? If it is not than I would start by getting a transducer mounting board or making one of my own and place the transducer about where the bracket is for the old speed pick-up is on the right side of the motor.
How well does that other Humminbird transducer work? I ask because you could use it for the 2D sonar and mount the 898’s HDSi transducer up a little higher on the transom to help protect it (they about $275 U.S. to replace). You would need an AS-Si-DB-Y splitter cable to connect both transducers to your 898 unit.
