Is there a tutorial?
« on: April 16, 2010, 08:08:02 PM »
I finally made it to the lake and was able to make some recordings of a few areas. Is there a tutorial on everything that is needed and how to install for taking recordings from an SD card to the PC for viewing, marking etc?

I have downloaded Hummviewer and have played the demo file and it is working. I read that I also need yellowfin and from what I understand I also need something else. Maybe I am reading in the wrong place. Gonna keep lookin around.

Tom,

YellowFin will only play back the SI portion of the recordings, but it has some pretty good features for measuring objects.

If you use YellowFin you will need to download my HBSI Converter to convert the SON files over to the .872 yellowfin format.

As for a tutorial, HumViewer and the HBSI converter have help documents with them.

Good Luck and let us know if you have any other questions.

From what I am reading I should be able to view with hummviewer. When I click on the sd card there is no file appearing but, it plays on the head unit.

HumViewer looks for the .DAT file.  They are stored in the RECORD folder.

No record folder. Hummviewer sees no files on the SD card at all.

I had the same problem...happened twice, changed SD cards and it has not been a problem since. Not sure if the card was the culprit, just don't want to take a chance on loosing more recordings.

That is a let down. Wonder which one I should buy. Looks like I wasted my money on an 8 and 4 G. SD card.

Can you see the files on your computer?  Insert the card and open the SD Card drive.  There should be a RECORD folder if you have made some recordings.

I would copy the entire RECORD folder over to a folder in your My Documents and then in HumViewer browse to the files there.

If the SD cards are SDHC can your card reader read them? I have 5 card readers and only 1 reads SDHC cards

Pig is right about the SD card reader.

If you have a SD card that is bigger than 2 Gigabytes, you need a HCSD compatible card reader to read your card. HC stands for "high capacity" and everything bigger than 2 GB is high capacity.

That has to be it. Thank you guys. Got to get an SDHC card reader first tomorrow after work. Will post in this same thread afterwards so maybe someone else can learn from it as I am sure I will run into something else. LOL!

My first time using an HDSC card. Just thought it fit so it must read it.

Yes, I have the SanDisk card reader and it won't read SDHC cards. Luckily my Hewlett Packard printer has card slots and it will read the SDHC cards.

Wound up having to get a sdhc card reader at wally world for 8 bucks. Works fine! Looks like the recording from the trolling motor isn't very good probably not fast enough. but I was pretty succesful with recording from the rear ducer. I seem to get the best reults at about 3 miles an hour. It is amazing what is in spots that I have fished for a while.

Now to take it up another level. Need to figure out how to go about marking waypoints and getting them on the unit. Havin fun figuring this stuff out and learning a lot.

Does anyone have experience with the speed and settings on the SI maybe some baseline settings?
