Title: 798ci SI single frequency capability
Post by: Fisherman1850 on February 02, 2010, 06:06:37 PM
Confession time - I don't own an HB product - yet.

Putting my toe in the water I am looking at the 798Ci and moving an X135 to the bow station.

My question is what does the single SI freq (455) cause in lost performance over getting into the pricier dual freq (455/800) models?  My guess is a loss of detail because it is not pinging as frequently.

Second question (you can have two, right?) is the lower power of the 798 a problem if I only fish inland waters that are probably never more than 200 ft deep?

This is a great site for all things HB!

Thanks in advance.

Mark

In reply to the 455 freq.  I have not had good results in depths over 100 feet.   some one else might have more to say on this.  chuck

I belong to the unofficial HB site for 6 months (then I joined this site, time it took to put money aside) before I decided which unit to purchase.  Based on the readings and my questions I ended up purchasing the 1197.  You should take and active role in viewing and in asking questions, then you may decide on what will fit your needs.

Welcome aboard you are in for a treat.

Welcome to the site Mark. This is the friendliest group of people that you will find anywhere. Most are well versed in the Humminbird Products and for good measure the Humminbird people respond too. I have had a 797 and now have a 798. I wish I saved up for the 1197 but you will be the one spending on your unit. Get the largest that you can afford.
