Title: Power plug
Post by: Saint on February 18, 2011, 01:40:38 PM
On my 898 the power plug can easily be plugged in upside down.  Anyone else notice this.  Looks like the plug is designed to prevent this mistake but mine doesn't.  Are they all like this?  We have to remove the head unit after each use because our boat sits in a marina.  I'm worried the power plug will be inserted wrong and destroy the unit.

Two reasons not to worry about this:
1. The unit has some reverse voltage protection circuitry in it to protect against wiring or plugging it up backwards.
2. Once in the connector collector the power cable will be plugged in correctly each time you take it on and off the boat.  You are using the connector collector aren’t you?  These are the parts that hold the cable connectors into the connectors on the unit.

No worries, the reverse voltage protection works!  I accidentally wired my first power cable backwards to my transformer for the house.  The unit will not power up if its in backwards and it did no damage to the unit.   ;D ;D

Lesson learned though!

Good Luck,

Robert
