Which chip/card
« on: January 06, 2012, 03:54:21 PM »
I am a new 798ci hd si owner (previously I had a matrix 17) and am considering the Navionics Fish n chip east, I did not know there were other options and now I am somewhat confused. What have you found works best. I am using it in a kayak and fish for stripers in the north east.

The search doesn't let me search fish n chip

Salt water which means Lakemaster is out (freshwater). I mention the yak because I don't really need info on the canyons, I haven't hooked it up yet but I would think adding the fish n chip would give me enough info without needing the navionics gold, I noticed the ads at the top for Dr.depth which seems interesting also. I had no idea there were other options besides navionics or lakemaster so I am researching before I purchase.

If you are going to purchase a chip it appears that this is what you need.

"CF/FISH-E ALL NEW Fish'N Chip High-Definition Fishing Detail Includes new data, inshore high-res bathymetry, vegetation areas and more for US waters (rivers not included). Use with Navionics Charts to locate near-shore/offshore structure and fishing hot spots".

The lowest price I could find is around $144.

You may want to try using the system without the chip to see if you need or want it.  A lot of the topography maps are very detailed (you probably already know this) and may give you the latitudes and longitudes needed to find those special spots.  I should talk though, I lean on the side of technology and purchase everything I can find and use half of it.

Cf/fish-E is the compact flsah version of the navionics fish n chip which brings up another question. Is it possible to convert the cf(compact flash) version over to sd(secure digital)?

You are right it is the wrong card configuration, sorry about that. Hodges has a "Navionics Gold Usa Fish'N Chip East On Sd/Micro Sd" which should work.  It is on sale at $151.92 plus shipping.  There do not appear to be a lot of choices out there.
