multiple days of data, different water levels ea day
« on: May 07, 2015, 03:31:07 PM »
I have been collecting data on a small lake over a number of days. The water level has changed 3x during this period. When collecting the data, I tracked each days routes on my HH gps, so I am able to document what day each track was recorded.

I have an idea to "standardize" all tracks depths. Fortunately many of the days tracks, overlap or cross, other days tracks. So I thought if I take day 1 and day two, and import them, at the points where each days tracks cross, I should be able to determine the depth difference when I move the cursor over each of the tracks, very near where they cross. If I follow through with this process, I should be able to determine the differences in water level from day 1 and all other days. Having these data, I should be able to then go back and import each day separately, adjusting for the different water levels using the Z(keel offset), to adjust for the differences.

It seems to me that this will then produce a map with all days data plotted to a specific water level. Does this sound like a workable solution?

FWIW, because there are multiple days with different water levels, I wasn't sure the tide adjustment would work.

hello, I never try this, but it looks like its a nice "trick" , and  I will try it!
By the way, way not use the tide correction? I think it will do the job and no need to adjust the Z all-time...

I will probably try it both ways.....as I study things.......I think the same effect will be achieved! Whatever occurs, I will report back here for others benefits.....should it be needed!!

I ended up using the tidal adjustments for each days data collection, when I imported/converted it. It was actually quite easy, since I was able to download the water levels for each day from a govt. website!
