hot maps sd
« on: June 16, 2011, 05:44:30 PM »
I have a 898c si hb   I  bought hot maps for lakes.   Is there any ajustment to the 898c  tha tyou have to know to get it to work?  I put it in a lowrance hd and  it worked fine.  It brings up conture but no structure ,like stump fields and old structures  that were already in the  lake. Any help is appreciated.

Wrogersjr Please verify that you have went to your Chart Menu
and selected Chart Detail level to ALL and that you have Spot Soundings set to visiable on the unit.  Also check to make sure you have your Platinum settings on the unit as well.   Gary

I have set chart detail setting to all , spot setting to visiable.  I have no idea where the platinum setting is.  I have looked in the manual.  I have the regular hot maps for the lakes -  not premium or platinum hot maps.

Wilson,
I checked the Navionics compatibility chart and the 898c SI supposedly can use the Lakes: Platinum, Premium, and Hot Maps chips.
The only thing it can't use is the Marine 'Classic' chip (whatever that is :-\).

As far as I know, there is no selection for type of map chip.
I think the unit should recognize the chip when it is inserted, if the chip is compatible.

I don't know much about the 898c SI unit.
Does it have two SD card slots?
If so, then try it in the other one.
If you only have one slot, then maybe put an SD card in it and see if you can record anything for a test.

The slot may have a problem.
Also, keep in mind that the chips don't contain detailed information for all waters.  Just a select number of lakes and rivers.
You may be fishing in an area that your map does not contain detailed info for that water.

Good Luck.

Lack of map card detail may be the issue here as the HotMaps lake cards have the least mapping detail of all the types of Navionics mapping cards.

When you install the map card; does the information on the Chart View (map view) change at all?
What lake and which region map card are you using?

Greg:

When I put the card in, the conture changes but only gives me the conture and depth.  It does not give me any structure or anything like stumps and things on the bottom.  The lake is Lake Moultrie and the the chart is Hot Maps East.  I have tried regular Hot Maps and Hot Maps premium and both are reading the same.

And the Lowrance unit showed structure and stumps with this same map card?
I had no idea that the Navionics map cards showed this sort of detail.

I was pretty impressed when i saw it to. I  thought, if it look good in a  lowrance ,it had to look better in hummingbird units. I think hummingbird has a little better screen than lowrance. Debrorah Benson and Robin Sterner sent some pictures and they were about the same as i had on my unit. It must be the differance in the maping system or something.

Its obivous the information we want must be on the chips our units are not reading it. This is
what I have been complaining about. We need to be able to read all the information on the chip.

I checked the Navionics site, and Lake Moultrie (In the Santee Cooper chain of lakes) is a lake with a high definition survey.  Lakes in red (on the Navionics site) have the HD surveys.
The map card should contain the stumps, channels, etc.

Greg,
Is it possible that per sonar model, depending on how much internal memory it has and what accessories it has.

Could this prevent the full map from being used if the memory gets sparse?

I don’t know ITGEEK.  I don’t know if it is a memory/processor issue or just not having the information to be able to program into our units to be able to show all of the data on the map cards.

I have been told that the map cards are a common set of maps and that they contain the information since it is used on different units. (manufactures)
It appears that the unit manufacture determines the  amount of detail displayed.
This in some is an option of low, medium or high.....for some makers..
It could be on some that the amount of available memory will dictate the low medium high when memory is stressed like in sonar application concurrent with charting..
(as in which screen is currently being shown on the unit...)
