More Windermere (Part 1)
« on: August 08, 2009, 01:26:21 PM »
The wind dropped enough to actually allow me to get out (but more importantly get back) from my berth on Thursday. Tried recording for the first time and am a total convert to it. Bowled over by the fact that you can alter the range and sensitivity settings on playback and spot all sorts of things that were hidden on the 'live' run because of inappropriate settings.

First shot is a yacht

Not sure whether this is a yacht or a cruiser, but SI View gives the length as 34'.

This is a sailing dinghy, hull up with the mast lying close by. Si View gives lengths as 13' and 17' respectively.

This next one is where I'd really appreciate the views of those more experienced. I'm initially assessing this as a wooden hulled boat, buried in the silt, however I'm open to opinions that this is a natural feature. There seems to be an 'L' shaped man-made object very close to it. The location is very close to where a wooden rowed ferry operated between the 13th and 19th centuries and size & shape correspond closely to pictures of the 18th century ferry.

Excellent shots Kevin!
What about going down and check what it is?
Still have to download a couple of things and post some pictures as well. Looks like I did it again, hehe.

I'm going to try to persuade an old friend of mine, who is a divemaster, to come and dive some of these targets. That's if I can lure him away from some of the deep salt water wrecks he usually dives.

If you've put a memory card into the 997, you can record runs. See page 81 of the manual for instructions of how to do it. Recording a run is great for what I use it for (wreck hunting), as when you play it back on the HB you can alter the parameters for range, sensitivity etc, change view screens and also create screenshots (if enabled) and waypoints. I tend to cruise with just the 2D screen showing all the time. I also copy the file onto my laptop and reveiw all the runs with both Humviewer and Si View, as it's amazing what you can miss watching it on the HB.
regards,
Kevin
