« on: October 28, 2012, 11:23:42 PM »
any one help with mounting on this set-up.  hoping to not have to buy another 'ducer for other toon.  I've included a few pics so you can see what i'm working with.
I sont mind having to tilt the motor up if it comes down to that

I would start by mounting it in the location of the transducer that is on the left pontoon now and testing it on the water.  Looks like you will have to raise the motor up so that the right Si sonar will not be blocked.

thanks.  That's what i did; just need to run power wires and gps today and test it out.

Question on gps installation, is it okay to mount perpendicular to the water vs parallel?  There's no good place to ount on the pontoon that would be close enough to the transducer to give me the accuracy i'm looking for.
Thinking about mounting on back wall of pontoon, but it is metal and i heard that's not recomended.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

tks

The GPS Receiver needs to be mounted parallel to the water or as close to it as you can get it.  The reason for this is so the GPS Receiver can hear the signal from all satellites that are above the horizon and therefore be more accurate in its positioning data.  Mounting it on the back wall of the pontoon will point it in the wrong direction and not allow it to receive the signals from over half of the satellites that should be in view.

There is no problem with mounting the GPS Receiver on top of metal.  Just don’t mount it under metal as it will block the signals from the satellites.

Suggestion: mount it on top of a pole that is mounted to, or over, the pontoon that has the transducer mounted on it.

I have a pontoon as well and I use 2 transducers with the Y cable.  I like the fact that the motor is not an issue.  As for the GPS mount, I used a mast extension like Greg suggessted.  I got this Shakespear mast and mount. http://shakespeare-marine.com/antennas.asp?antenna=4364 and http://shakespeare-marine.com/mountshow.asp?findmount=4720.  It is mounted to the side of my ski tow bar.  The GPS uses the threaded attachment that came in the box.  Works Awesome!!  ;D
