Topic: 798si duplicates waypoints

I have searched the forum and not found any topic quite like this:

My 798 has all the latest updates and no problems that I have seen.  recordings work great with the software downloaded from here too.

I have waypoints on an SD card from this machine and a Garmin 76s.  The Waypoints were loaded as a group and were not duplicated after one of the updates that required the machine be wiped before the installation.  I have no maps installed.

Last summer I began to get a start up pop up warning there was not enough memory to load all the information.  I take the 798 out of the boat the end of each day of fishing.   Yesterday I looked at my way points for the first time in a couple years.  I found all of them to be equally duplicated 8 or 9 times.

What is going on, what setting do I have incorrectly set?

Oh boy, I just figured out how to edit the waypoint screen, I got them deleted, my card is not in the machine and it only shows single entry

so...
how did it happen and why, how can I stop it from doing that duplicate stuff And set it correctly. In the meantime I will continue experimenting.

I have not heard this before unless there was a change made to all of those waypoints – like a name change.  Than the unit would recognize them as different waypoints and load them again.  Otherwise it should see that they are duplicates and not load them and show you that in a pop up message.

Were you getting any sort of message that the unit was loading new waypoints when you powered the unit on?
